For this release, Trudiann took inspiration from the long historical connection between Mount Gay and yachting, creating a high strength Eclipse blend bottled at 57.1% ABV.
Eclipse Navy Strength delivers both bold and aromatic flavor. Bottled at 57.1%, it is aged between 2-4 years, with a higher portion of older, pot still rums than the traditional Eclipse blend. This maintains the roundness, balance and elegance of its flavor profile.
Navy Strength is a historical term dating back to years when sailors would voyage the oceans carrying large quantities of rum.
In the days of cannonballs, wet gunpower that would not light would be a death sentence in battle. However, sailors quickly realized that if rum was spilled, though with a high enough strength, the gunpowder could still light and be used: so, this ‘Navy Strength’ was what was carried on ships.
The historical US reference was 57.1% ABV.
