The predominance of Pinot Noir (50%), the touch of 10% of wines produced in oak casks and the prolonged aging on the lees give the power and aromatic richness so typical of Veuve Clicquot Vintage style. Chardonnay (30%) brings the elegance and finesse of a perfectly balanced wine, while a small percentage of Pinot Meunier (20%) rounds out the blend. Veuve Clicquot’s Vintage collection is unique for its use of wines vinified and aged in large oak casks (10%), which adds strength and aromatic intensity. The cask-aged wines bring an additional complexity with their spicy notes and subtle roast coffee and toasted aromas.

Tasting Notes (Nose)
The initial bouquet is elegant, opening to aromas of crunchy fresh fruit (bush peach), citrus fruit and a mineral touch that comes from chalky soils. The notes of violet and lilac are reminiscent of the scents of spring, and later, more bready notes, (hazelnut, candied quince and fresh butter) gradually take over. On the palate the opening is clean-cut. The Vintage 2004 has a generous freshness; the Pinot Noir intensifies its role, lending body to a tense, very lively wine.

This wine stands out for its elegance, tension and energy. The first impression is of its tension, verticality and minerality, after which the wine unfolds its aromas of toast, roasted coffee beans and praline. The excellent structure makes this a fine, upstanding vintage.
